...Silent Night...

Question: What do you do with a baby boy at Christmas time?

Answer: You use the ward Christmas party to make him a childhood star. Say hello to our little Baby Jesus.

Need you ask? He was fantastic--he nailed all his lines.

Merry Christmas!

All I want for Christmas is you!

And you!

Our family home evening this week consisted of baking cookies and making Jeppson Seasoning (my Grandma and Grandpa's secret stuff), and taking these around to friends. What a great way to get into the Christmas Spirit! There was no caroling however, because we didn't want any doors slammed in our faces or awkward expressions from our friends. We just did the give 'n go.

We are headed to Utah and Idaho for the holidays! Sure, it would be great to go somewhere exotic, like Mexico (::ahem:: safe travels Aunt Visor, Memzy, and company), but we're headed west to get us some snow! Seriously, we live in Colorado and have NO snow...not a single flake. It's been as warm as 52 degrees this week. Call it what you want, global warming, cyclical warm/cold winters, luck of the draw...the fact remains that the lack of snow necessitates that we go home for Christmas. See you all in 2011!

p.s. Dayton had his 2-month check-up today (code for "received 3 shots"). Aside from being very upset with the nurse, he did great. Since birth he's gained 5 pounds and 3.5 inches.
* 23 inches
* 12 lbs 2 oz
* Head Circ. 16 cm
He teased me this week by sleeping for 7 straight hours one night, but we're back to the old routine. Honestly though, it's such a blessing that I don't have to work right now. It makes it so much easier to enjoy him at 2 a.m. He's my little midnight snack. :o)

Trying to Smile

The best part of motherhood is watching Dayton reach milestones. Lately he has been trying to smile. Please ignore the grunting and red face--I may have caught him at a bad time. :o)

Whirlwind Update

The last two months have been jam-packed with family, fun, and food. Here's the skinny on what we've been up to.

My mom came to help us adjust to parenthood at the end of October. For a week and a half, I relaxed each morning by taking a hot bath and didn't cook a single meal. We ate like kings as she made it seem so easy to whip up a great meal complete with side dishes and dessert. We took her up to Estes Park to see the sights, and she volunteered to be our family photographer.

Dayton debuted as a pumpkin for his first Halloween at 2 weeks old. He is so sweet, such a mellow baby. He was so tiny!

We made a quick appearance at the ward Halloween party. Kirk dressed up as the unassuming, mild-mannered Clark Kent/Superman (Get it? Man of "Steele"), which made my decision easy. I went as Lois Lane.

For your enjoyment, the token "Baby's First Bath" photo. Notice the strategically placed washcloth. You're welcome. Someday Dayton will thank me as well.

My friend, Taunja, and I had our babies 5 days apart. Her son, Casen, is on the left, Dayton is on the right. I'm pretty sure Taunja pinched him, hence the sad face.

My nephew, Connor, feeding Dayton. He did such a good job!

Grandma Decker holding Dayton. He is her 110th great-grandchild! He's kind of a big deal.

We spent Thanksgiving in Utah with Kirk's family and had so much fun! This picture was taken at the Grand America Hotel during the holiday celebration. Free scones and hot chocolate, please and thank you.

We blessed Dayton in Utah so we could have more of our family with us. Here is the handsome little man in his adorable outfit, made with love by Grandma Randall. Gotta love the little blue bow tie.His blanket was given to us by Grandma and Grandpa Steele, who brought it home from Bethlehem. The booties were made by a wonderful friend (thanks Sister Hammond!). In this picture, Dayton is lying next to his cousin who is only three days older.

Members of the Randall family who were able to come to the blessing. We had so much support from BOTH sides of the family, but I only got this picture taken with my camera.

Kirk did a wonderful job giving Dayton his blessing. It was surreal to look up at Kirk holding our baby as he gave the blessing, realizing (again) that we have entered a new stage of life together. He continues to be supportive and helpful, and is loving fatherhood. Dayton and I are so lucky to have him.

Life is good!
